MAYWOOD, IL – Continuing efforts to ensure lasting success for the Maywood Public Library, state Rep. Chris Welch, D-Hillside, announced the release of the first Maywood Public Library Committee report on Monday.
“I would like to thank the committee for its hard work and dedication to improving the Maywood Public Library,” Welch said. “The library a staple in our community, and we have to do everything we can to ensure that this resource is open and available to the people of Maywood. The committee report provides several options, and with further research, could improve the library’s longevity, efficiency and productivity.”
The committee is comprised of local officials, library board members and community leaders. The report is intended to provide suggestions to the library board and to begin a greater discussion among Maywood residents. After reviewing the library’s history, its finances and challenges, the committee released a report that addresses issues including budgeting and community outreach. Suggestions included volunteer outreach, finding new sources of revenue and establishing local partnerships to support the library.
“This won’t be solved overnight. Although I applaud the quick response from local officials to reopen the library after its brief closing in October, we have to come up with innovative ways to make the library better and stronger over time. This report is a good starting point for us to understand the library’s challenges and decide what needs to be done to overcome them. I look forward to working with the committee and the residents of Maywood to pinpoint concrete solutions that will secure a long future for the library.”
