The Village Free Press Presents–A Candidate’s Forum, Tomorrow, 3pm, @ The Maywood Public Library

“Having become a candidate for the honorable office of one of your Representatives in the next General Assembly of this State, in accordance with an established custom and the principles of true Republicanism it becomes my duty to make known to you, the people whom I propose to represent, my sentiments with regard to local affairs.” (Abraham Lincoln, 1832).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAYWOOD, Illinois, February 7, 2014–The Village Free Press, The Forest Park Review, The Maywood Public Library and a range of community organizations such as Neighbors of Maywood Community Organization (NOMCO) are collaborating to host the first Think Democracy Candidates Forum on February 22, 2014, 3pm to 7pm, at Maywood Public Library (121 S. 5th Avenue, Maywood, IL 60153).

The purpose of this event is to allow all candidates running for State Representative (77th District), Proviso Township Committeeman, Cook County Circuit Court Judge (4th, 11th and 7th Districts) and Cook County Commissioner (1st District) to present their cases for election before the 150,000+ voters of Proviso, River Forest and Oak Park Townships. (Note that, since the Proviso Township Committeeman and State Representative races are two-candidate races, whether or not they’re covered at the Forum is contingent on both candidates agreeing to participate).

This forum will be covered in area newspapers and will also be distributed widely via social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. This event is nonpartisan, fair and unbiased. The ground rules are based on those provided by such esteemed civic organizations as The League of Women Voters and The Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network. Copies of those rules are available upon request.

This event is FREE and open to the public. We encourage citizens of all ages and backgrounds to attend. To confirm your attendance at this event (and so we’ll know how many people to anticipate), go to this event’s Facebook page (click here) and simply click “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Not Going” (we prefer the former).

THINK ACCOUNTABILITY. THINK PARTICIPATION. THINK DIALOGUE.

THINK DEMOCRACY.
