A Legal, License and Ordinance Committee (LLOC) meeting has been scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 7 PM, at Village Chambers (125 S. 5th Avenue, Maywood, IL). Click here to access the agenda packet.

The following is a sneak peek at some of the items planned for discussion:

  • The Village’s workers’ compensation arrangement and possible renewal is to be discussed.
  • The corporation that owns the property at 316 Randolph, formerly the Baptist retirement home, is requesting action from the Board that would allow it to recommence with redevelopment. According to an Board report, there hasn’t been “forward progress” on the proposed rehabilitation of the building since 2012. If redevelopment goes according to plan, the building would be turned back into a high-density, assisted living development. “Once the property is redeveloped the Cook County Assessor will capture the improvement and the Village will see an increase in tax revenue.”
  • The Preliminary Annual Operating Budget for FY2015 is to be discussed.
  • The possible extension of an intergovernmental agreement between the Village and Cook County that’s necessary for the implementation of the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program (SWAP) is to be discussed. According to the agenda item report, SWAP “is made up of non-violent offenders charged with DUI and other misdemeanor crimes who ‘swap’ jail time for a community service sentence. Under the supervision of specially trained sheriff’s deputies, the crews work throughout the county on a variety of public works projects such as cleaning parks, viaducts and streets.” The Village has made use of this program in the past.
  • The Office of Independent Inspector General (OIG), which was designated via ordinance on July 23, 2013, is set to expire on July 15, 2014. The ordinance authorizes the OIG to serve a one-year term, after which the Board may determine, by a majority vote, whether or not to reappoint the OIG before its term expires. The OIG is the unit established by Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart to combat suburban corruption. Maywood, along with Dolton, was one of the first suburban municipalities to allow the unit to setup shop. VFP
