Learn About New Educational Programs in District 209 at Forum on May 21
Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will discuss the exciting new programs being introduced in our schools at a community forum on May 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The forum will take place at the District’s offices in the Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy Auditorium, 8601 West Roosevelt Road in Forest Park.
“We are coming into an exciting time in our District where we are able to offer our students new programs to boost their academic achievement and enrich their education,” said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of District 209. “With the changing landscape that is occurring in college and career readiness, we need to be able to offer our students new opportunities to grow and to learn, and I believe that these programs will do just that.”
Those in attendance will learn more about the new International Baccalaureate diploma program that will be introduced at PMSA in the new school year. The International Baccalaureate is a program designed to be academically challenging and provide students with an education that can gain them entry to the most prestigious college and university programs in the world. PMSA currently is in the request for candidacy phase of bringing the program to the school. The District plans to bring the program to Proviso East and Proviso West in the next few years. Information about the new Advanced Placement courses that will be offered next year also will be presented.
Other presentations at the forum will include information on the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering program that will begin at Proviso West in 2014-15, and the new elective cosmetology and barber program that will be offered at Proviso East and Proviso West next year.
In addition, those in attendance will learn more about the new Common Core Standards that will go into effect at Proviso East High School, Proviso West High School, PMSA, and schools across Illinois at the start of the 2014-15 school year. District administrative staff will present information about the new standards, the assessments that will be a part of the standards, and answer parent questions about how it will be implemented in District 209.
Information on the new state PARCC assessments and changes in the special education programming also will be presented. VFP
