Local Dance Studio Dealt Another Blow

Due to the fire at Proviso East High School this past Saturday, 400 dancers in Maywood will be without a performance space for their annual dance show this June.  For these dancers, including six high school seniors this recalls the terrible day four years ago when they lost their dance studio to a fire.  In March of 2010, Maywood Fine Arts’ dance studio, Stairway of the Stars was lost in a fire that destroyed the building that had housed it for 32 years. Stairway only missed one day of classes before moving the studio to a temporary space at a local church where they continue to be located.

The Maywood Fine Arts staff is desperately trying to find an alternative space that can house this show with the large audience that comes to attend the two performances.  Lois Baumann, Executive Director of Maywood Fine Arts stated, “If we are unable to find a new space we will have 400 disappointed young dancers, who have been rehearsing for months!

Maywood Fine Arts Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing the children of Maywood and surrounding communities with high quality instruction in the fine and performing arts.  Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which children can develop skills and appreciation of the arts that will enable them to succeed academically and socially and to obtain higher educational opportunities.
