Maywood — At a regular board meeting on Tuesday, May 20, the Maywood Board of Trustees unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement between the Village and the West Cook YMCA, which will operate the Fred Hampton Family Aquatic Center at 300 Fred Hampton Way for the second consecutive year. This year, the Board agreed to split the costs of operating the pool with the YMCA down the middle and to share in any profits that may be realized from the venture. Below is a press release issued by the West Cook YMCA that provides pool hours, daily fees, seasonal pass costs and other important information you may want to know:
Maywood’s Fred Hampton Family Aquatic Center Set to Open 2014 Swim Season Under West Cook YMCA’s Management
Maywood, IL – May 22, 2014–Maywood’s Fred Hampton Family Aquatic Center, at 300 Fred Hampton Way, will be open one day in May – Memorial Day, Monday May 26 from12 noon to 7 p.m. – and then officially will reopen for the summer season beginning Sunday, June 8, and continue through Sunday, August 17, the same hours, from 12 noon to 7 p.m.
“The opening of the Maywood pool and aquatic facilities for the season, especially after such a challenging Chicago-area winter, is a wonderful cause for joy among all members of the community who enjoy exercising in an outdoor pool,” said Phillip Jiménez, president and CEO of the West Cook YMCA that will manage and operate the facility for the third season.
“We’re very pleased that the West Cook YMCA, which has a long history of operating aquatic programs and properties, can partner once again with the Village of Maywood, one of ten west suburban communities whose residents we serve,”Jiménez said.
“This opportunity to serve the people of Maywood is an excellent demonstration of how the YMCA operates beyond its own walls on South Marion Street in nearby Oak Park to respond to a community need,” he said.
“Through a partnership between the Village of Maywood and the YMCA, kids, families and seniors in Maywood will have an opportunity for an enjoyable summer of swimming in the Fred Hampton Family Aquatic Center’s pool.
“This is a fine example of the intersection of the YMCA’s missions to advance healthy living, foster youth development and develop social responsibility,”Jiménez said.
Kim Polk, the West Cook YMCA’s Aquatic Director, will supervise the Maywood Center’s staff.
In addition to public swim hours, the Aquatic Center will also provide swim lessons, host day care camps and schedule private events.
