You’re invited to two upcoming events that center on education and our children.
The first is a town hall meeting on school discipline policies. I’ve been working on this issue for several years, and last spring I introduced legislation that would have ended zero-tolerance policies and reduced the use of suspension and expulsion. You can read more about it here.
Too often, these discipline techniques result in students who already face serious challenges falling even further behind. The legislation did not pass this year because we reached an impasse between pro-reform organizations and school administrators. I want your input to help improve my plan so that I can get it through the General Assembly in 2015.
What: Town hall meeting on school discipline
Where: Proviso Mathematics & Science Academy, 8601 W. Roosevelt, Forest Park
When: Wednesday, July 23
Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m
