Stephanie Mota, 22, was recently charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI after she hit Alberto Vela, 46, with her car last Saturday in Melrose Park, according to Cook County court documents.

The June 25 crash happened at North Avenue and Winston Plaza Drive at around 4:30 a.m. Melrose Park Police officials said Vela was driving in the area when his vehicle ran into a median.

When Vela, of Northlake, exited the vehicle after the accident, he was hit by Mota, who was driving a Chevy Camaro. Vela was rushed to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 5:14 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
