West suburban commuters traveling eastbound on the Eisenhower Saturday night may have confronted a significant slowdown in traffic.

According to Illinois state police, two people were shot while driving on an eastbound ramp from California Ave. onto the expressway. The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. Traffic was backed up at least two hours later.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the driver was in serious condition at the time of the shooting while his passenger was grazed by a bullet. The man, 32, was rushed to nearby Stroger Hospital.

As state police investigated the scene of the shooting, eastbound traffic stalled in the area of the shooting. So far, no one is in custody as state police look into the cause of the crime.

The Eisenhower shooting was the second expressway shooting in the Chicago area on Saturday. An 18-year-old was shot on the Bishop Ford Highway. VFP
