At a Sept. 15 Legal, License and Ordinance Committee (LLOC) meeting, the Maywood Board of Trustees welcomed Joshua Koonce, (pictured left), on board as the village’s new urban planner — a position that entails working in numerous areas, including zoning and economic development.
Koonce noted during brief comments at the meeting that he’s been on the job for several weeks. He replaces former urban planner Karl Palmquist, who resigned in April to take a similar position in Glendale Heights.
Before coming to Maywood, Koonce worked as a planner at the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association.
While at the SSMMA, Koonce worked with the South Suburban Land bank in order to mitigate foreclosure and vacancy problems, provided technical assistance with numerous housing initiatives and worked with 15 suburbs in the Chicago area to plan housing strategies and development opportunities, among other duties, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Koonce acquired his bachelor’s degree from Trinity Christian College and his masters in urban planning and policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. VFP
