According to numerous news reports, a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot during what appears to have been an attempted robbery in Broadview early Tuesday morning has been identified as Cory Foster, Jr.

Foster is the son of Cory Foster, Sr., pictured above, the former deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Pat Quinn and former chief of staff to Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin (1st). Foster, Sr., who lives in Bellwood, was also appointed to the position of 7th District state representative for a stint in 2012.

Today, Boykin released a statement on Foster Jr.’s murder in which he noted that he “spoke to Cory and expressed my condolences to him and his family. The pain in his voice was palpable.”

According to a Chicago Sun-Times report, “Officers responded to a call of shots fired about 3:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of 25th Avenue where a 20-year-old man with gunshot wounds was found, according to a statement from Broadview police. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead.”

Boykin added that “each day that goes by without meaningful actions to curb this horrific gun violence is a shame on all of us as elected officials. I urge the governor to convene a group of law enforcement officials, elected officials and community leaders to discuss what can be done to protect the citizens of Chicago Cook County.”

So far, it isn’t known whether or not Broadview police have anyone in custody. VFP
