Last Wednesday, Maywood Firefighter Fred Saffold explained the comparative advantages of the department’s new $450,000 fire engine, which the village purchased last year after Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh told board members that the department’s old engine was not functioning due to mechanical failure.
“Some communities spend in excess of $600,000 for an engine,” stated Bronaugh in the village’s quarterly newsletter, “but not us. This vehicle should serve us well for up to 20 years and is now one of the front-line engines being deployed at Fire Station 1.”
Saffold explained that the new engine should be more energy efficient than the one it replaced, since it’s outfitted with fuel-saving technology and LED lights.
