During the summer, numerous social service organizations and churches will serve as free summer meal sites. Free healthy and nutritious summer meals are available for teenagers and children under 18 years old while school is out.

The Summer Food Service Program is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.  The program also has several local sponsoring organizations, including Proviso Leyden Council for Community Development (PLCCA) and Catholic Charities.

According to a flyer circulated by PLCCA officials, the organization’s Summer Food Service Program runs from June 12 until August 4. No registration is required. Breakfast is served weekdays from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. while lunch is served from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. For more info, call (708) 865-0605.
