A man who led police on a high speed chase on July 17 is now facing four charges. On early Monday morning, at around 4:10 a.m., Maywood patrol officers spotted a red Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois license that had reportedly been stolen from Chicago during an aggravated vehicular hijacking.

When police officers “attempted to position their patrol units to curb the offending vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed and refused to stop for enforcement attempts,” according to a statement released by  Maywood police on July 17.

The driver, later identified as Keshoun Crofton, led police on a high speed chase through surrounding suburbs before abandoning his vehicle at Grand Ave. and Oak St. in River Grove. He was apprehended by officers after a short foot chase

Crofton reportedly “displayed and fired a handgun in the direction of pursuing Maywood police vehicles,” according to a July 21 police statement. Police apprehended Crofton at Grand Avenue and Oak Street in River Grove.

After an investigation of the incident by Maywood police, Crofton was charged with aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Crofton was transported to the Circuit Court of County 4th Municipal District in Maywood, where his bond was set at $90,000. He’s due to appear in court on July 26, police say. VFP
