The village of Maywood has hired a new deputy clerk, a position that had been empty since July 5 when former deputy clerk JoAnn Murphy vacated the position, according to Village Clerk Viola Mims.

During an Aug. 9 Legal, License and Ordinance Committee meeting, Mims announced that Thomas Pavlik, the former village clerk of Berwyn, was hired to replace Murphy, effective Aug. 7. Pavlik lost his bid for reelection to Berwyn’s clerk seat in April.

“We had put out an announcement [and] had applicants who came into our office,” said Mims. “Interviews were taken and we reviewed all of the resumes that came about and Mr. Pavlik was the most qualified and experienced, as far as having a municipal background and [working in the clerk’s office].”

Mims did not disclose Pavlik’s starting salary. According to Open the Books, Murphy’s salary in 2016 was around $53,000. VFP
