Oliver L. Rhone, a 37-year-old resident of Glendale Heights, was charged with first-degree murder in relation to the shooting death of Quentin Tillison, also 37, who authorities say lived in Maywood before moving to Schaumburg recently.

The shooting happened at around 5:15 p.m. on Monday in the parking lot of a Schaumburg Walgreens, according to Schaumburg Police. Rhone reportedly told authorities and witness that he acted out of self-defense.

Police say that the two men had been in a dispute moments leading up to the shooting. According to an Aug. 17 Chicago Sun-Times report, during the conflict, “Rhone took out a gun and shot Tillison in the abdomen, police said. Rhone drove away from the store in a light-colored SUV.”

Tillison was taken to a hospital in Park Ridge where he was pronounced dead at 2:41 a.m. the following day, according to authorities.

Rhone fled the scene. On Wednesday, according to a report in an Aug. 17 Daily Herald report, police had executed search warrants for Rhone at homes in Glendale Heights but didn’t locate him. Rhone eventually turned himself into police on Wednesday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

During a court hearing on Friday, prosecutors said that Rhone told police and witnesses that he shot Tillison in self-defense, according to an Aug. 18 Daily Herald report.

Per the Herald report: “The narrative discussed here is an absolute false narrative,” said Rhone’s attorney Ken Merlino, adding “this is one of the weakest first-degree murder cases ever filed.”

Police had requested that anyone at the Schaumburg Walgreens during the time of the shooting call them at (847) 348-7055.
