Proviso East Pirate and University of Illinois basketball standout Dee Brown has taken a job as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois at Chicago, according to multiple reports.

Before taking the position at UIC, Brown had worked at his alma mater,  the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as the director of player development and alumni relations. He resigned that position in October 2016 after only several months on the job, according to an Aug. 29 report by the Herald & Review’s Jim Bowling, who noted that Brown cited family reasons for the resignation.

In 2005, Brown led the Illini to the NCAA Championship game against North Carolina. He’s widely considered to be among the most popular athletes in U of I’s history.

“It’s an interesting and sensible move that gets Brown his first college assistant coaching job and should give him a chance to recruit Chicagoland and beyond as he cuts his teeth bringing his boundless energy to the college game,” Bowling writes.

Doc Rivers no longer Clippers president  of basketball operations

Earlier this month, LA Clippers owner Steve Ballmer relieved Maywood native and Proviso East alum Doc Rivers from his role as president of basketball operations, according to an Aug. 9 ESPN report.

Per an Aug. 4 USA Today report:

“Doc knows how to win championships. That is what we prioritize, and that is what Doc will focus on,” Clippers owner Steve Ballmer said in a statement. “He is key to integrating our new players with our returning players and taking us to new heights on the court.” VFP
