14-year-old, Shot in Maywood on Aug. 30, Dies

A juvenile who had been in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center after an afternoon shooting in Maywood on Aug. 30 has died, according to authorities.

The shooting happened at around 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 on the 600 block of 11th Ave. in Maywood, said Maywood Police Chief Val Talley, who added that this is the village’s ninth homicide of 2017.

The identity of the victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, has not been confirmed yet, but Talley did confirm that the victim is 14 years old. So far, no suspects are in custody. Police are still investigating the shooting.

“We did recover a suspect’s car,” Talley said on Aug. 30. “We don’t know the circumstances of the shooting but our investigators have been canvassing the area collecting information. The Cook County Sheriff’s department has also been helping out.”

  1. It is very heartbreaking that the 14 year old child is the ninth homicide victim of the village of Maywood. I hope that the residents of Maywood and the Maywood Police Department can collaborate on some strategy to bring the perpetrator to the authorities, and take a stance against gun violence. Residents really need to attend the town hall meeting and write down their citizens’ comment to voice their concern about the homicide rate. Bring Mrs. Mayor Perkins, Maywood Police Chief Talley, Village Manager Willie Norfleet, Jr., and the trustees accountable to stop the gun violence.

    One thing that I have to say is what was the Alpha Phi Alpha Peace March was all about that IL State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch did? That strategy didn’t work!
