The Bellwood McDonald’s, located at 520 S. 25th Ave., will open in early October, according to marketing officials affiliated with the company.

The store has been closed for several months while undergoing major renovations. The store’s owner, Ray Nelson, announced back in May that the remodeling would cost around $1 million.

At the time, Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey said that the Nelson family was “going to make the McDonald’s new from the ground up and make it bigger somewhat.”

Jan and Ray Nelson have owned the Bellwood McDonald’s since its opening in 1996, according to a statement released by the franchisees last month.

“This, in fact, was the first brand new store they owned,” the statement read. “They had to remodel three times in the first seven years that they owned this store because it was too small for the sales it was achieving.” In 2006, the owners installed a dual-lane drive-thru and remodeled the dining room.

The Nelson family has operated McDonald’s locations throughout the Chicago area for over three decades. They currently own and operate nine locations in the suburbs, including Maywood, Forest Park and Oak Park. VFP
