Broadview Comes Back Online With New Website

During a Sept. 18 regular meeting, Broadview officials announced that the village launched a new website after going more than two years without one.

Back in June, Broadview Mayor Katrin Thompson said that her staff was working on creating a website “that’s user-friendly and that residents can have access to.” The site, she added, would also feature live streaming footage of village board meetings and public town halls.

The Monday board meeting was the first to live stream, with village officials outlining the new website’s functionality and how it might evolve in the future.

“This is a very basic form of communication that should’ve never went away,” said Trustee Verina Horn. “When you have a website up and running, you can effectively communicate to your residents.”

Horn said that residents can now pay their bills online and receive information on various village services, among other functions.

“It all works, because I tested it personally,” she said, before introducing Keith Caldwell and Gerald Miller, who the village contracted to build the site.

“We want to let people know — residents as well as visitors [and] people who want to do business with the village — that this is the place where you can find that information,” said Caldwell, who added that he has a background in graphic design and IT networking.

“This is not a static site,” Caldwell said. “What you see now is probably not what you’re going to see next month or the month after that.”

Caldwell said that, along with paying bills and live streaming meetings, residents can also report a concern and sign up for notifications, such as robocalls. There could be more features added in the future, he said.

“We’ve included a lot of stuff. There’s a ton of content. Some of the stuff on the old site that’s no longer relevant, we got rid of it,” he said. “If there’s a business coming in and we want to highlight it [or] some random act of kindness, why shouldn’t that go in? […] If there’s not a link or something’s not on the website, there’s no reason why we can’t put it on.”
