There’s a lot happening in the Proviso Township area this week. Here are just a sampling of the big events going on near you.

RSVP for Maywood Senior Day at the Movies 

Seniors have until Wednesday, Nov. 1 to RSVP to attend the annual Maywood Senior Day at the Movies on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Seniors will see “Boo 2: A Madea Halloween” for free. Please RSVP by calling (708) 450-4492.

Grow your awareness with PASO

On Thursday, Nov. 2, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 W. Roosevelt Road, PASO West Suburban Action Group will host a screening of “Documented,” a documentary film about Jose Antonio Vargas’s undocumented experience.

Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who produced and directed the film, will attend the screening and will be available for discussion. Please confirm your attendance at this FREE event through PASO’s Facebook page or by calling (708) 410-2000.

Attend a celebration dinner

Vargas will also keynote PASO’s celebration dinner on Friday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m., at the Diplomat West Banquet Hall, 681 W. Take in some Jazz at T&JJ’s 

Super Sax Maywood-born-and-bred D’Erania will lead “D’Erania and Friends” this Friday, Nov. 3, at T&JJ’s Supper Club, 718 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood. Get fed at a monthly youth breakfast

On Saturday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at 200 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Maywood Youth Mentoring will host its monthly “Unity in the Community” youth breakfast. The breakfast will feature an open mic (clean lyrics) and hot topics. Students receive community service hours (bring documents or we will provide, extra hours for kitchen duty, starting at 7 a.m.). Bellwood School District 88 will host its first Senior Movie Day on Saturday, Nov. 4, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Thurgood Marshall School’s Little Theater, 2501 Oak Street in Bellwood. Grow your financial literacy

The nonprofit organization People Help People will host a free financial workshop in Room 202 at the Maywood Public Library on Saturday, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, on Saturday, Nov. 4, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Attendees will receive advice on how to maximize savings for the future.
