A Maywood woman gave birth to the first baby born in Melrose Park in 2019, according to Westlake Hospital officials.
Savanna Garcia, 22, went to Westlake, 1225 W. Lake St. in Melrose Park, to give birth to Dominick Casanova Santiago, at 8:31 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2019.
Westlake officials said that the hospital is the only one in Melrose Park that delivers babies.
“My experience was amazing,” said Garcia in a statement released by the hospital. “The nurses are so caring and kind, and Dr. Furlin was wonderful. I love them all.”
Dominick weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounces, and stood 20 inches tall, at birth. He was born four weeks early with respiratory challenges. He’s currently being cared for by neonatologists from Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago who have a relationship Westlake, hospital officials said.
“Dominick joins older brother Noah Michael Santiago,” officials stated. “Victor Santiago is the father.” VFP
