Let’s talk about an arts district in Maywood
THIS HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED DUE TO THE COLD: On Wednesday, Jan. 30, 5:30 p.m., at Maywood Fine Arts’s Studio C, 20 N. 5th Ave. in Maywood, a group of leaders seeking to form an arts district in Maywood will hold a public follow-up meeting.

Attend a Black History push for jobs
On Friday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., inside the atrium of the James R. Thompson Building, 100 W. Randolph, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford will host his second annual Black History Push for Jobs. The event is free and open to anyone looking for work or contract opportunities from the state.

Celebrate Black History Month at a free breakfast
On Saturday, Feb. 2, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Maywood Multipurpose Building, 200 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Maywood Youth Mentoring will host its monthly youth breakfast. Topic: “The role of Black History in creating strong communities.”
Brother Nubian Malik, an educator and Elder in-training with the Bolozi Wazee (Council of Elders) and a founding member of the Amos N. Wilson Institute, will be the speaker. Raffle and prizes. Root on your team at the Crosstown Classic
On Saturday, Feb. 2, 12 p.m. (sophomores) and 1:30 p.m. (varsity), at Proviso East High School, 807 S. 1st Ave. in Maywood, Proviso East and Proviso West basketball teams will face off in the annual Crosstown Classic.
The event will feature the presentation of an award of excellence before the varsity game by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association to the Proviso East basketball program.
Test your Black History knowledge
On Saturday, Feb. 2, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, test your knowledge on important events that, and people who, shaped history.
