There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family:

Gain knowledge of personal finance, homeownership

On Saturday, March 9, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Maywood Multipurpose Center, 200 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Universal Housing Solutions CDC will host “Rebuilding Communities One Homeowner at a Time,” which is a free event featuring workshops on credit, budgeting, savings, pre-approval, rehab lending, down payment assistance and more. Learn the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s

On Saturday, March 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the Alzheimer’s Association of Illinois will host an informational session on the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Watch a free film for Women’s History M Month

Throughout March — Women’s History Month — the Maywood Public Library will host a free screening of a movie that features a strong female character.

On Wednesday, March 6, 4:30 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the library will screen “Zootopia” (PG). The following movies will screen at 4:30 p.m. on these dates:

  • March 11 | “Moana” (PG)
  • March 13 | “Whale Rider” (PG-13)
  • March 18 | “Persepolis” (PG-13)
  • March 20 | “Queen of Katwe” (PG)
  • March 25 | “Proud Mary” (R)
  • March 27 | “Mad Max Fury Road” (R)

Attend the One Earth Film Fest at Triton College

On Saturday, March 9, 2 p.m., at the Performing Arts Center of the Robert M. Collins Center (R Building) on the campus of Triton College, 2000 5th Ave. in River Grove, Triton College will participate in the One Earth Film Fest by screening the film “Dirt Rich.” The One Earth Film Fest is the Midwest’s premier environmental film festival, screening films at venues throughout the Chicago region March 1-10. Learn about free senior services

On Tuesday, March 12, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Bellwood Public Library, 600 Bohland Ave. in Bellwood, attend an informational session on the low-cost or free senior services in Proviso Township, such as the handyman program or free transportation. Hear about an ArtSpace in Maywood

On Wednesday, March 13, 5:30 p.m., at Maywood Fine Arts (Studio C), 20 N. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the public is invited to a follow-up meeting about a proposed Artspace (a place where artists can live and work), as well as an Arts District, in Proviso Township. Calling all artists who believe in bringing drama, poetry, dance, music, theater, drawing, painting, filmmaking, architecture, ceramics, sculpting, photography and so much more to Proviso Township.
