Experience a pop-up shop in Maywood

On Saturday, April 6, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1027 S. 17th Ave. in Maywood, Cheryl Renee’s Things will present a VIP Vendor Celebration Pop-up Shop, with portable purses by Roynette for sale. Free entry. Food. Music. Drinks. Shop for jewelry, clothing, purses, hats and wigs, among other things.

Meet a local author and Proviso grad

On Saturday, April 6, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, author Robert Cox will discuss his book Curious Proviso, followed by a Q & A. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Register by calling the library or visiting

Get Money Smart

Starting Saturday, April 6, noon to 1 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, Proviso Community Bank will host a Free Money Smart Class: Pay Yourself First. The Money Smarts for Adults instructor-led curriculum consists of 11 training modules that cover basic financial topics, which include deposit and credit services, spending plans and the importance of saving, among others.

Engage in a Pizza and Politics Town Hall

On April 8, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Maywood’s Council Chambers, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, state Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch will host a Pizza and Politics Town Hall Meeting for community members to share their opinions on state issues over pizza.

“There are many important issues that I’m working on in Springfield including protecting health care for working families, adopting a fair tax that requires the wealthiest to pay their fair share, and passing a capitol plan that will help create jobs in our community,” Welch said.

Enjoy architectural drawings

Starting April 8, at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the architectural drawings of Aaron Canino will be on display at the library until April 29. Come in with your adult library card in good standing to receive a free parking pass to the Botanic Gardens. VFP
