There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family: 

Get empowered at PTMAN’s tent revival

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, 6 p.m., at Christian Unity Baptist Church, 2140 Washington Blvd. in Bellwood, Proviso Township Ministerial Alliance Network will kickoff its annual Unity in the Community Tent Revival. The revival will continue on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16.

Each Night: Free Food: 6 p.m. Lecture: 6:30 p.m. Worship: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Transformative preaching, counselors, employment opportunities, singing, vendors and more. Sit under our tent or bring your own lawn chair. RSVP here.

Get prepared for back to school with D209

On Friday, Aug. 16, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park, District 209 will host the One Proviso Back to School Bash featuring free food, prizes, school supplies, band performances, games and much more. The first 100 people get a free back to school t-shirt.

Don’t miss the Back to School Giveaway and Parade

On Saturday, Aug. 17, Maywood Trustee Isiah Brandon and the Maywood Old Timers Committee will host the 14th Annual Back to School Giveaway and Parade. The parade lines up at 11 a.m., at 19th Ave. and Maywood Drive, and kicks off at noon, ending at the Maywood Police Station, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood. Enjoy the Annual Old Timers’ Picnic

On Saturday, Aug. 17 at Maywood Veterans Park, at the corner of 5th Avenue and Oak St. in Maywood, the Annual Maywood Old Timers’ Picnic will take place featuring line dancers, Roosevelt Raiders alum, an Old School Car Review, the Proviso East Marching Band, Proviso East cheerleaders and more.

Revel in Unity in the Community

On Saturday, Aug. 17, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 2140 Washington Blvd. in Bellwood, Christian Unity Church will present the Unity in the Community Festival featuring live music, food, free back to school supplies, free haircuts, free parking and more. For more info, contact (708) 544-1028 or Also visit

Take in a free guide hike
