The Maywood Public Library will host its second annual job fair on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood.
Library officials said about 22 employers are confirmed and they represent a range of sectors and industries, including the military, retail, customer service, government and transportation.
Jori Daniels, the library’s head of information services, said on Saturday that some employers will be taking applications on the spot.
Last year’s fair attracted roughly 200 attendees, Daniels said, adding that library officials recommend that attendees dress in business casual (“as if they’re going on an actual interview”); however, there’s no strict dress code.
Daniels said that the idea to host the job fairs came from Randy Carter, a library staffer who works in information services. Carter maintains the library’s jobs board, updating the critical resource a few times a week.
“Employers typically send him information and notices that they’re hiring,” Daniels said. “So, he thought that he’d step it up a notch.”
Daniels said that library staffers will be on hand on Monday and Tuesday to help people develop their resumes before Wednesday. She said that they can also print out copies of their resume at the library, if necessary.
