There’s a lot to do this week in Proviso Township. Here is just a small sampling of events available for you and the family: 

Take advantage of a job fair

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, library officials will host the library’s second annual job fair.

Library officials said about 22 employers are confirmed and they represent a range of sectors and industries, including the military, retail, customer service, government and transportation.

Mix it up with the Bellwood-Proviso Chamber

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Christos Furs, 10411 Cermak Rd. in Westchester, the Bellwood-Proviso Chamber of Commerce will host a Chamber After Hours Networking Mixer — an evening of free networking, socializing, food and fun. Please RSVP by Aug. 19 to or by calling (708) 397-6646.

Celebrate National Senior Citizen Day

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Proviso Township office, 4565 Harrison St. in Hillside, celebrate the 3rd Annual National Senior Citizen Day. Listen to a mix of sounds

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 6 p.m., at Bulger Park, 1601 Hirsch Ave. in Melrose Park, Veterans Park District will host Music in the Park featuring dancing, food, cold beer and wine. Listen to the exciting mix of Rumba, Flamenco, Latin Jazz and the world sounds of Guitarra Azul.

Attend a Maywood town hall

On Thursday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Council Chambers, 125 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, the village will host a town hall forum.

Enjoy music in the park

Get informed at a housing fair

On Saturday, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Eisenhower Community Center, 700 Speechley Blvd. in Hillside, the villages of Bellwood and Maywood, along with the North West Housing Partnership will present a Community Housing Fair.

Get valuable information and counsel from lenders, insurance companies, attorneys, realtors and others. Featuring elected officials, Wintrust Bank, Pan American Bank and other lenders, State Farm and other insurance companies, ComEd, FEMA and other resources. Raffle draw and door prizes.

Learn about cannabis during summit in Maywood

On Saturday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Maywood Public Library, 121 S. 5th Ave. in Maywood, a free Cannabis Educational Summit will feature Rachel Berry, the founder and CEO of the Illinois Hemp Growers Association. Register at (Search: Cannabis Educational Summit).

Fellowship with your neighbors at NeighborFest

On Sunday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1025 Lake St. in Melrose Park, join your neighbors at NeighborFest! Free food, live entertainment, petting zoo, bounce house, games, prizes, bingo and more! The Resale Shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Half-off on all items in the shop that day. Give your input about a proposed park in Melrose Park

On Monday, Aug. 26, 5:45 p.m., in the Village Board Meeting Room (Courtroom) located on the first floor of the Melrose Park Police Department Building, 1 North Broadway Ave. in Melrose Park, the village will hold a public hearing concerning the funding and construction of an interpretative walking trail, picnic shelter, and canoe/kayak launch along Silver Creek near 1st Avenue and Silver Lane. 

The Village will accept comments at the hearing, or in writing to the Village Clerk through Sept. 6.

Details of the proposed project and the grant application will be explained at the hearing. Public input will be considered prior to project design and implementation. VFP
