Oak Park will soon make housing history with the opening of Sojourner House, the first dedicated bridge housing in suburban Cook County. Located on Austin Boulevard, Sojourner House contains five separate apartments as well as a detached coach house unit and will bridge the gap between homeless shelters and permanent housing for vulnerable men, women, and families facing homelessness.

In August 2001, former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn walked across the state with his doctor Quentin Young to bring awareness to affordable healthcare for all. Now, the former governor’s son, Patrick, is walking in his father’s footsteps — well, almost.

As temperatures dip to what could be record-breaking lows, Maywood-based Housing Forward, which serves people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, has opened shelter sites to serve as warming centers for those in need, while also facing uncertainty over what federal funding will look like in the coming months.
